The BBC is launching a “Stay Up or Catch Up” option for England fans ahead of the last-16 match against Mexico.
With kick off set for 1am on Sunday night/Monday morning, the BBC is offering a spoiler-free breakfast re-run from 6am on Monday – for those who don’t fancy staying up all night.
The BBC will be broadcasting the Mexico match on BBC One and the iPlayer from 1am, with live commentary on Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds, as well as an interactive service on its app.
“World Cup knockout football is absolutely unmissable, but a 1:00am kick-off isn’t realistic for everyone,” explained Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport.
“We wanted to make sure there was an option for those fans who just can’t stay up to experience one of England’s biggest matches live. So, whether you’re staying up to watch every minute live or waking up to catch every moment spoiler-free, BBC Sport has you covered this Monday.”

Kelly Cates will be hosting the live show from MediaCity in Salford, alongside Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and Micah Richards, while Alan Shearer joins Guy Mowbray in the commentary box from the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City – the home of the infamous “Hand of God.”
The spoiler-free version will include a full re-run on BBC Two at 7.10am, or on demand from 6am, well as a 15 minute highlights programme on the iPlayer and the BBC Sport Football YouTube channel.
The nail-biting win over DR Congo reached a peak audience of 16.3 million, generated 10.4 million streams across BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and app. More than 20million visited BBC Sport’s live coverage page.
