BBC Radio Merseyside names new Breakfast team

BBC Radio Merseyside has announced its new line-up, including the presenters taking over from Paul Salt at Breakfast.

The rejig is part of the BBC’s “Digital First” strategy, which has led to a number of cuts across its local radio service.

Salt, who hosted the show for 2 years, is now presenting a new evening sports show on the station – Total Sport Merseyside.

His replacements are Phil Munns, who’ll do the Breakfast Show 4 days a week, and Lisa Marrey who’ll host on Fridays. Before joining the BBC, Munns spent more than 11 years at Dee 106.3 as a presenter, broadcast journalist and its Head of News.

They’ll work alongside Jessica Robbins, Weekend Breakfast’s David North and Jenny-Lee Summers, who also produced Salt’s Breakfast Show.

Tony Snell will continue in his mid-morning slot, joined on air by producer, Harriet Gulliver.

“I’ve been privileged enough to broadcast across Merseyside for so many years and I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed every minute of it,” stated Snell.

“To be able to continue on the mid-morning show, now five days a week, into an exciting future makes me feel very honoured and proud. The audience has, and always will, remain my priority.”

Helen Jones, who’s been at the station for more than 2 decades, will host Drivetime 5 days a week.

Meanwhile Sean Styles will present a 10am-2pm slot every weekend.

“I’m so excited about the new schedule – our priority, without doubt, is to produce the highest quality local radio from the heart of Merseyside, for the people of Merseyside,” said Radio Merseyside Executive Editor, Ben Anderson.

“I’ve lived in the region for nearly a decade and I want our listeners to know that everyone at the station is working incredibly hard to ensure that Merseyside audiences get the BBC Local radio station they deserve.”
