Paul Salt presents final Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Merseyside

Paul Salt has presented his final Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Merseyside.

The decision is part of the wider “Digital First” strategy at the BBC, which has led to a number of cuts across local radio – including the departure of high profile regional presenters.

Salt, who’s hosted the programme for more than 2 years, confirmed that his co-hosts, Leanne Harper and Jenny-Lee Summers would also be leaving.

“As you know there’s going to be a few changes to BBC Radio Merseyside. I’ve loved the last 2 and a half years and I’m really proud the audience has continued to grow on breakfast! I just wanted to say thanks for listening,” he said.

“Leanne and Jenny are also leaving breakfast. I’d like to thank them for all they’ve done. They’ve been a pleasure to work with.

“We’re all a bit gutted but have to respect the decision. I hope we made a difference!”

His long-term replacement hasn’t been announced, but Salt stated that he would be starting a new sports programme next month, called Total Sport Merseyside.

Salt took over the Breakfast Show from Tony Snell in 2020, prior to joining the BBC, he worked on Radio City Breakfast alongside Kev Seed, and Century FM.

Meanwhile, another former BBC Radio presenter, Jonathan Cowap, who’d hosted a daily show on BBC Radio York for more than 30 years before being asked to reapply for his job, has joined YO1 Radio.

He’ll present a new weekday morning show on the commercial station, starting in September.
