BBC boss Tim Davie on how to ’empower creative industries outside of London’

BBC director-general, Tim Davie, will be a key speaker at this year’s Creative Cities Convention in Bradford where he will discuss “how to empower the creative industries outside of London to drive growth, opportunity and inclusivity.”

The event is scheduled to be held from May 7 to 8 in as part of the city’s UK City of Culture 2025 celebrations.

The BBC chief will be in conversation with Tracy Brabin, the Mayor of West Yorkshire, discussing how to empower the creative industries outside of London to drive growth, opportunity, and inclusivity.

This year’s Creative Cities Convention, themed ‘Local to Global: More in Common’, celebrates the power of British creativity to captivate global audiences while highlighting its unifying force at home.

From television to gaming and film, the conference will explore how fostering collaboration across creative industries can spark new opportunities, champion cultural convergence, and bridge divides in an increasingly fragmented society.

Davie said: “Public service broadcasters play a key role in ensuring homegrown creativity continues to be a global success story, through unearthing talent, developing skills and reflecting communities across the UK.

“The BBC is proud to support this year’s Creative Cities Convention in Bradford and I look forward to celebrating the people, dynamism and innovation which is driving the creative industries outside of London.”

Brabin added: “It’s going to be an incredible year for West Yorkshire’s creative industries, with Bradford UK City of Culture 2025 set to attract millions of people to the region.

“We’re using this opportunity to nurture talent, create more jobs, drive investment and grow our economy.

“I can’t wait for creatives to hear more about our plan for a stronger, brighter West Yorkshire at this year’s Creative Cities Convention in Bradford.”

The Creative Cities Convention was founded in 2018 by director Ruth Pitt and John McVay, the Chief Executive of the UK’s Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT).

Previous conferences have been held in Leeds, Cardiff, Glasgow, Birmingham, Newcastle, and Bristol, while past speakers have included Lenny Henry, Kirsty Wark, David Olusoga, Anita Rani, and Robson Green, and numerous leaders from the broadcasting, streaming, and production communities.
