Asda partners with Ocado to “enhance online grocery service”

Asda is planning major upgrades to its website and app following a partnership with Ocado Group.

The Leeds supermarket brand said the move would make online shopping simpler, quicker, increase on-time deliveries and create more delivery slots.

“We know that continued success in this highly competitive market is dependent on providing a positive experience for customers every time they shop,” explained Allan Leighton, Asda’s Executive Chairman.

“Partnering with Ocado, will strengthen our online offer and provide a consistent and high-quality experience for millions of shoppers, from order through to delivery, while supporting our Formula for Growth.”

The retailer currently fulfils more than 700k online grocery orders each week and will now embed Ocado’s Smart Platform technology into its web, mobile app, in-store picking and home delivery service.

The partnership will begin in 2027 with an upgrade to Asda’s website and online shopping experience.

Ocado’s in-store fulfilment solutions are already used in more than 1,000 grocery stores worldwide, with the wider Ocado smart platform supporting around 70m orders each year.

Under the terms of the agreement, Asda will retain full control of its customer offer, pricing and online operations.

It added that scheduled home delivery and click and collect orders would continue to be done by Asda stores and its existing fulfilment hubs.

However, orders placed through rapid delivery operators, such as Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats, will be picked by Asda using Ocado’s technology and delivered by the third-party provider.
