Carla Knight has taken up a new role as director of client services at Manchester specialist agency Notch Communications.

Knight takes up the new role at Notch, which describes itself as “highly focused on science and technology markets” after almost six years at Stockport’s APS, one of the largest integrated agencies in the UK, where she was until recently director of agency services.

Prolific North caught up with Knight to find out what had appealed about the move from an industry giant to a much more specialised, one might even say niche agency, whose client list features companies and organisations in the life sciences, pharmaceutical and chemical fields such as the Royal Society of Chemistry, at this stage in her career.

Knight said: “I’ve been working agency side for a long time now, and probably the past 10 years in the larger sized agencies, which has been great. It’s a different focus now, because you’re dealing with the same kind of marketing challenges from clients, but you’re dealing with a lot of volume, and a wide number of clients, and probably a broader proposition in terms of the services that you will deliver for them. I just got to this point where I wanted to learn something new, and I wanted something that was bespoke.

“That’s what attracted me to notch. It’s very defined, and in terms of the skill sets and people that they attract, unique in the marketplace. I love that that’s new to me, and a new experience and challenge.”

Knight has already taken up her post, joining the Manchester team based at the Charlotte Street office in the city centre.
