Manchester developers, Mapway, have had 40m downloads of their apps.

The company produces apps to navigate public transport systems, including the London Underground and New York Subway.

“It’s been a fantastic twelve months at Mapway and we’re delighted to have achieved 40 million downloads across our apps. Last year we increased our offering in Boston, Delhi and Mexico as well as unveiling a whole host of new features on both iOS and Android,” said CEO David James.

“So far this year, the team has been working hard on some really exciting projects that we think will take Mapway apps forward in the future. One of which has been Augmented Reality (AR) and working collaboratively with Apple to create an award winning feature for our Bus Times London users.”

The firm believes that AR will be a major growth area for them, not least in London, where users can find bus stops by seeing a digital path on top of real-world streets.

“Our next generation of navigation apps will be faster, smarter and more helpful than ever before and we have some exciting new announcements to come that we hope will take us to our next milestone of 50 million downloads!” continued James.
