She’s the most successful British Paralympian of all time and just a couple of weeks after announcing her retirement, Dame Sarah Storey is about to head to Strictly Come Dancing.
During her glittering career, the 48-year-old has won a total of 30 Paralympic medals across 9 Games.
That included 19 Golds, 4 of which came in London.
More impressive is that she competed 4 Games as a swimmer, before switching to cycling. In 2010, she also become only the second Para-athlete to compete against non-disabled athletes at the Commonwealth Games – she finished 6th in the Individual Pursuit.
“Embarking on a new challenge so soon after stepping down as an athlete is hugely exciting,” she said.
“I have always loved watching Strictly and my daughter Louisa is a very talented dancer, so to be able to learn from the best and hopefully understand even more about her world, is incredibly motivating! I can’t wait to get started!”

She will be the first Dame to compete on the show and joins Lacey Turner, Dani Dyer, Delta Goodrem, Chris Appleton, Cach Mercer and Will Best in the line-up.
At the start of the month, Storey said that she’d taken the decision not to compete at Los Angeles 2028, in order to focus on helping to improve Para-sport.
Storey is a Visiting Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University, Active Travel Commissioner for Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Chair of Lancashire County Cricket Club.
