New editor at The Times Scotland

Dale Miller has been appointed as the new Editor of The Times and Sunday Times in Scotland.

The 44-year-old joined the publisher in December last year, initially as Acting Editor, he was previously Deputy Editor of The Scotsman and has also held a number of senior roles at Edinburgh Evening News.

He replaces David McCann who has left News UK. McCann had been suspended since November, after being charged by Police Scotland, over a criminal investigation “unrelated to his work.”

Dale Miller is described by News Scotland as being one of the country’s most trusted editorial leaders. He began his career in Australia, working at The West Australian.

“Scotland has never been short of big stories, and right now it has more than most. I’m hugely excited to be taking on this role at such a consequential moment – for Scottish politics, for the economy, and for the country’s place in the wider world,” he said.

“In an era of misinformation, providing authoritative, high-quality journalism matters more than it ever has, and The Times is the most trusted newsbrand in the country.”

His appointment comes as Times Media is seeing “significant growth” across its digital and audio platforms. The Times and The Sunday Times now reach 12.5m people per month in print and digital, with more than 659k digital subscribers.

“The menu of major news events in Scotland in the months ahead is a rich one, from the Parliamentary elections next month to the small matter of a World Cup tournament with a home team to follow every step of the way,” added Richard Bogie, Managing Director of News Scotland.

“I know that Dale is as committed as I am to ensuring The Times remains the most trusted voice in Scotland media and I am delighted that he’ll be leading our brilliant editorial team as they write the next chapter of this country’s story.”
