Cast changes were a constant on Coronation Street throughout 2025 – and 2026 is stacking up to be no different.
Last year saw Max Turner (Paddy Bever), Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King), Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) and Jenny Connor (Sally-Ann Matthews) all leave the cobbles, alongside several notable debuts.
Viewers were introduced to Kevin and Debbie Webster’s estranged brother Carl (Jonathan Howard), while Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) arrived in a dark storyline that has seen him abuse Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).

With production pressures continuing across ITV’s soaps, more changes are expected as Corrie balances exits, long-term storylines and some familiar faces returning.
Fan favourite Daniel Brocklebank has already been killed off after 11 years as vicar Billy Mayhew. Discussing his departure, Brocklebank said: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not look forward to going into work. I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”
Coronation Street favourite Channique Sterling-Brown has also left the ITV soap, stepping away from her role as solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey.
The 28-year-old actress joined the cast in 2022 as the daughter of Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) and Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw), with the character central to several major storylines over the past three years.
Metro previously reported that Sterling-Brown had decided to pursue new projects, with Dee-Dee’s exit playing out towards the end of 2025.
Amy Cudden (Becky Swain) also Departed in January 2026 after a short stint and fans were left heartbroken when Debbie Webster was diagnosed with young-onset dementia, a storyline that is set to run for several more years.
Iconic Corrie writer Jonathan Harvey has confirmed that Debbie’s condition will progress over “the next few years”, while actress Sue Devaney revealed on Lorraine that the story will continue “well into 2027”. While the diagnosis points towards an eventual exit, no timeframe has been confirmed.
In July 2025, reports suggested that Coronation Street and Emmerdale would face further changes as part of ITV budget cuts.
It was claimed that around one in ten cast members across both soaps could be axed, with a further £15m set to be cut from overall budgets. While some long-serving actors remain on contracts, many cast members are paid per episode, leaving them more exposed to reductions.
The same reports suggested a reduction in scenes per episode as part of the cost-saving measures – a backdrop likely to continue shaping cast decisions through 2026.
However, Gail Platt (Helen Worth) made a festive return, despite leaving the soap only last year. The fan favourite made a brief cameo over Christmas, sparking hopes of return. While it wasn’t a full-time return, the appearance thrilled fans and marked the 50th anniversary of the character, showing Gail wishing everyone Merry Christmas and David a happy birthday.
