Cheshire’s Mix 56 will have a new look to mornings from Monday 3rd November, with Breakfast presenter Smithy set to be joined by Ian James, who currently presents the mid-morning show, for the new Smithy and Ian at Breakfast, airing Monday to Thursday from 7am to 10am.
The new pairing promises more focus on local stories and a great mix of music to get the day started for listeners across Cheshire.
James said: “Joining Smithy on breakfast is incredibly exciting. We can’t wait to bring plenty of energy, laughs, and great tunes to help people start their mornings with a smile.”
Following breakfast, the station will keep the energy flowing as Phil Roberts steps into the 10am to 1pm slot with his own mix of classic hits, community features, and conversation. Roberts, a well-known voice on the local radio scene and former Marcher Sound/MFM breakfast presenter will bring his trademark charm and enthusiasm to the late morning audience.

Station director Paul Smith said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to refresh our morning offering. This new lineup strengthens our commitment to providing vibrant, local radio that connects our listeners to the heart of life in Cheshire. Phil is a great addition to our team and is at home in Cheshire where he used to broadcast to on Marcher Sound /MFM.”
Mix 56, originally Lymm Radio, was initially set up at the start of lockdown from a spare Cheshire bedroom. It is now a full-time, not-for-profit Social Enterprise with two on-air studios in Lymm. In 2023 it launched on the then new DAB small scale multiplexes in East Cheshire and Warrington, with a new focus taking in the towns of Warrington, Knutsford and Altrincham as well as its initial Lymm broadcast area.
In an age of increasingly syndicated “local” radio from the big players, Mix 56 is regularly out and about in the local community and has conducted live broadcasts from the Tatton Flower Show, Cheshire Show, Warrington Job’s Fair, the High Legh 10K and The Halliwell Jones Stadium with Warrington Wolves.
Smithy and Ian at Breakfast launches Monday 3rd November, followed by Phil Roberts in the morning slot from 10am. Tune in on DAB, online, or via the Mix 56 app.
