Lindsey Burrow and Amy Garcia to take on epic Yorkshire challenge in Rob Burrow’s memory for Children in Need

Lindsey Burrow and BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia are set to take on an epic three-legged walk across Yorkshire in memory of Rugby League legend Rob Burrow, raising money for BBC Children in Need.

The Thousand Mile Challenge Extra Leg will take place from 13–14 November, with the pair visiting towns and villages across West, South, and North Yorkshire — including Castleford, Selby, Barnsley, Wakefield, and Huddersfield.

The special event forms part of the wider 1000 Mile Challenge — a UK-wide effort where BBC presenters and audiences across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will collectively walk 1,000 miles on 4 and 5 November to raise money for children and young people.

For Lindsey, the challenge continues the work she began alongside her late husband, Rob Burrow, who died in 2024, four years after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. Since his passing, Lindsey has continued to raise awareness in his name, running several marathons for charity and championing the values Rob embodied.

Amy Garcia said: “We are both mums and passionate about trying to help make life better for children. We wanted to do something that not only raises money but also brings communities together so we can meet the people of Yorkshire. Walking through our towns and villages with Lindsey for such an important cause feels incredibly special.”

Lindsey Burrow added: “Rob believed in the power of community and kindness. This challenge is a way to carry that spirit forward and support children who need it most. I’ve run a number of marathons for charity, but this is my first challenge for BBC Children in Need and will be a unique test.”

Together, the pair’s efforts aim to celebrate Rob’s legacy and highlight the generosity and community spirit that define both Yorkshire and BBC Children in Need.
