Gary Neville’s Manchester production house lands BBC’s WSL Football live brief

Buzz 16, the Manchester production house co-founded by former Manchester United star Gary Neville in 2016 and maker of his Overlap shows, has landed the contract to produce BBC Sport’s live WSL Football coverage for the next three years.

The BBC will show a total of 21 WSL games this season, with 14 set to be shown on linear and the rest on iPlayer, as per the five-year rights deal the broadcaster agreed in 2024.

Familiar BBC Sport faces including Alex Scott, Jeanette Kwakye and Betty Glover will present, alongside pundits Ellen White, Fara Williams, Steph Houghton and Anita Asante. Robyn Cowen and Vicki Sparks are the commentators.

The recently rebranded WSL Football comes into the new season with an unprecedented level of public interest in the women’s game following the England Lionesses retaining the European Championship in the summer.

Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, said: “If you loved the Euros this summer then you won’t want to miss the WSL. We’ve got live matches, highlights of every game, clips of the best match moments on social and discussion of all the biggest news on the Women’s Football Weekly podcast, all on free-to-air platforms. We’ve got an exciting season ahead of us!”

Scott Melvin, co-founder and CEO of Buzz16 and Overlap exec producer, added: “At Buzz we live and breathe football and with the stratospheric growth of women’s football it is a very fitting start to the 2025/6 season for us to be playing such a vital role in the broadcast of the WSL.

“WSL is committed to growing the women’s game for the future – a sentiment we wholly echo – so we’re incredibly proud to be their newest production partner.”

In addition to Buzz 16’s live coverage, the BBC will also have the Women’s Football Show, which returned on Sunday September 7, with highlights of every WSL fixture. This season will also see digital highlights from every fixture available on the BBC Sport website and app, plus the BBC Women’s Football Weekly podcast on BBC Sounds.

Announcing the news on LinkedIn, Neville, who sold a majority stake in Buzz 16 to Miroma Group in 2022 but remains a co-owner, said: “Well done to the team at BUZZ 16 on becoming the BBC’s WSL Production Partner.”
