Two leading production companies are backing a call to find emerging film and television producers.
Sheffield’s Warp Films (This is England) and Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions (Before I Got To Sleep), Vertigo, Number 9 Films and Pulse Films are some of those supporting the scheme.
Set up by Creative England, the Producer Hothouse runs until March 2017 and includes a programme of workshops and masterclasses, which are delivered with funding and support from Creative Skillset.
The intensive professional development programme will take on up to 10 entrants, who’ll have the opportunity to undertake a six-month placement with an established production company.
It’s aimed at those based outside of London, who are preparing their first or second feature.
During the placements, applicants will receive a bursary, plus an allocation towards relocation costs.
The Creative Producer Initiative will work on diversifying the producer’s project portfolio and looking at other platforms beyond film.
This is open to anyone in England, with no more than one full producer credit.
“The role of the producer is fundamental to the filmmaking process, so we have developed these new initiatives to support our emerging talent in building rewarding, sustainable and flexible careers in the challenging independent film sector,” explained Caroline Norbury, CEO of Creative England.
“Outside London these challenges are compounded and so we have specifically developed Producer Hothouse to help up-and-coming producers outside the capital develop the skills and opportunities to establish themselves within the industry.”
