A Manchester agency is employing AI to fight AI – helping recruiters to see through over-inflated CVs.
Tribes Digital has been awarded an Innovation Grant from Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub to support the next stage of development for its proprietary vetting engine, DevCheck.
The system is an AI-driven scoring system, originally built to vet developers for its own internal projects, they now plan to evolve it into a standalone SaaS project.
This will be done by working with the University of Manchester to strengthen the system’s methodology, ensuring greater accuracy, explainability, and scientific validation.
“We are extremely grateful for the support from Business Growth Hub. This innovation grant will enable us to not only accelerate the development of DevCheck, but will also enable our incredible team to collaborate with some of the world’s leading academics at the University of Manchester,” said David Elkabas, CEO/MD of Tribes.
“This collaboration will aid DevCheck’s evolution and ultimately see our DevCheck product be further enhanced with academic approval, before entering a rigorous development stage with our clients and partners, before a global role out.”

Karen Dudley, Commercialisation Specialist, Innovation Service, GM Business Growth Hub said of the award:
“Having worked with Tribes over the last few years it has been really great to see them engage with the innovation eco system and successfully secure funding, enabling them to develop their AI enabled Dev Check technology and accelerate the time to commercialisation”
The project will be led by Professor Xiaojun Zeng and the grant follows Tribes’ previous Growth Hub–funded project with the University of Salford, which produced a white paper outlining the academic foundations for DevCheck.
