Stephen Mulhern to host Deal or No Deal reboot

Stephen Mulhern is set to host the relaunch of Deal or No Deal, which shot pilot episodes at dock10 late last year.

Show insiders have now claimed that the rebooted show’s mystery host will be none other than Catchphrase host Mulhern, who the Daily Mirror claims picked up £700k last year for gigs including as Roy Walkers replacement on the “say what you see” family favourite and ITV stablemates In for a Penny and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

Mulhern was widely-tipped as the new host when it emerged that the pilots were shooting at dock10 last November, and ITV bosses were reportedly so pleased with the pilot episodes that they have already ordered another 20 shows.

Deal or no Deal first rose to fame on Channel 4, where it ran from 2005 to 2016 with Noel Edmonds hosting. The reboot is expected to initially run for around a month on daytime ITV later this year.

When grilled about rumours surrounding him stepping into the revamped show last year, Mulhern said: “Are they talking about it? The answer is yes. Would I love to host it? Yes, without fail. It’s one of the best game shows ever created.”

Insiders said the pilots went down a treat. They also added that a suggestion the series had been altered in a bid to update it is wide of the mark.

ITV is seemingly going big on the revamped family favourites this year. Big Brother is also set to return on the channel alongside golden oldies Gladiators and Survivor.
