Snooker loopy: BBC bags UK championship in York

The UK Snooker Championship is back, and thankfully for my cousin that works in Sheffield Crucible and had a slight meltdown when I mentioned this, given all the kerfuffle, the important part is “UK” championship, not world.

BBC Sport
is giving audiences front-row access to the iconic Triple Crown event, live from York Barbican from Saturday 29 November to Sunday 7 December.

BBC Sport will broadcast every moment, ensuring fans don’t miss a second of the action. Coverage will air on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Four, with uninterrupted streaming available on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and app. Behind-the-scenes content, expert analysis and standout moments will be shared across @BBCSport social media channels.

Hazel Irvine, Seema Jaswal and Catrin Heledd will lead the live coverage with reporting from Shabnam Younus-Jewell. Joining them are snooker legends Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, John Parrott, Dennis Taylor, and Ken Doherty.

Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport, said: “The UK Championship is the first Triple Crown event of the season, and BBC Sport will bring audiences every frame across TV, radio and digital platforms. With a world-class line-up of presenters and pundits, we’re bringing the stories and drama to life: Can Judd Trump defend his title? Will Ronnie O’Sullivan break his own record and claim a ninth win? Fans will have to tune in and follow the action with us.”

BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds will provide regular live updates, with Jamie Broughton reporting throughout the tournament. The BBC Sport website and app will feature video clips of the standout moments, daily live updates and reports from York, and a comprehensive live text service for the final.

Earlier this year,  BBC Sport and World Snooker Tour agreed an extension to their broadcast agreement to 2032. This five-year renewal ensures the Triple Crown events, and the stories of success that come from these iconic competitions, remain free-to-air for many millions of snooker fans across the UK.
