Shooting wraps for Yorkshire BBC1 drama ‘Billionaire Boy’

A cast including David Walliams and Catherine Tate has wrapped up shooting Billionaire Boy for BBC1’s Christmas schedules.

Billionaire Boy is the fourth BBC adaptation of a Walliams novel following the successes of Gangsta Granny, Mr Stink and The Boy In The Dress and was backed by Screen Yorkshire.

Billionaire Boy filmed in Rotherham & Sheffield from October 5– 31 . Key locations included Wentworth Woodhouse & Oakwood High School.

The cast includes John Thomson (The Fast Show, Cold Feet); James Fleet (Vicar Of Dibley, Partners In Crime); Rebecca Front (The Thick Of It) and Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi, Harry Potter, Life’s Too Short).

Executive producer Jo Sargent, of King Bert Productions, said: ‘’We’ve had a brilliant time shooting Billionaire Boy in Yorkshire. The combination of fantastic crew & locations, brilliant performances from the local children and investment from Screen Yorkshire created the perfect package for a successful shoot. We can’t wait to share the results with audiences this Christmas.’’

Screen Yorkshire chief executive Sally Joynson said: ”We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to work with King Bert to bring Billionaire Boy to the screen. With a fabulously entertaining script and stellar cast on board, it has all the makings of a real treat for audiences over the festive season.’’

The programme was commissioned by Shane Allen, BBC Controller of Comedy Commissioning, and Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One. Screen Yorkshire invested in the production through its Yorkshire Content Fund.
