Rovtech has completed a “transformative seven-figure deal” to acquire the subsea robotics business from Seatronics.
The Cumbrian firm hasn’t released the actual figures from the move, but it will take ownership of Seatronics’ VALOR Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) business from Seatronics Ltd.
The acquisition will double its workforce in Cumbria and Aberdeen.
“The VALOR ROV has provided a step change in what has traditionally been the limitations of an Observation Class ROV,” explained CEO John Polson.
“Its lightweight design, power, manoeuvrability, and unmatched ability to integrate several state-of-the-art sensors, makes it an indispensable tool for modern subsea operations, and we are thrilled to integrate this business into Rovtech.”
Rovtech added that it would enhance its position as a global tech leader in manufacturing robotics, tooling and harsh environment equipment for nuclear and subsea operations.
It’s been a busy few months of acquisitions in this market, with Rovtech itself acquired by climate tech venture start-up, Ventex in October.
Aberdeen-based Ventex was founded by Steve Gray, the former CEO of ROVOP, which was recently sold to Chouest; and Stuart McLeod who led QEDI through its £33m acquisition by Amec.
Seatronics and its sister company, J2 Subsea were also sold in October, with Ashtead Technology completing a £63m acquisition from Acteon Group.
