Regional indies get ITV backing

ITV has named 5 companies to receive backing as part of its Amplify: The Regions scheme.

The indies have been matched with one of the broadcaster’s commissioners and will receive funding to develop potential ideas for the channel.

The selected 5 are:

  • Osprey Television based in Deeside North Wales
  • Studio Something based in Leith, Edinburgh and
  • Beagle Media based in Newquay,
  • Bright Branch based in Cardiff,
  • High Rock Media based in Northern Ireland

Osprey will be working with Reality Commissioning Editor Amanda Stavri, while Studio Something has been matched with Factual Entertainment Commissioning Editor Kate Teckman.

All of the companies will receive a brief and then get £5k to develop any potential ideas. Should they be greenlit, the next step will be to go through the standard ITV commissioning process. If, however, they are not right for the broadcaster, the production companies will be free to pitch the idea elsewhere.

ITV set up the initiative last year, to strengthen its relationships with indies in the nations and regions.

Osprey is led by Chris Wood and Hayley Jones, who’ve previously worked at Lime, BBC and ITV. Studio Something was born out of cleaning crime scenes (you can read about that bit here), but has since gone on to produce shows for BBC and brands including NBA, Coca-Cola and Ooni.
