Recording sessions, festival slots and bespoke PR up for grabs as BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year returns for 2025

Prizes including two professional recording sessions with BBC Radio Scotland, a spot at Scotland’s largest music festival, TRNSMT, and a bespoke PR campaign are up for grabs as BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year returns for 2025.

Submissions opened at the weekend and close on Monday, January 27 at 8pm. Artists can enter by uploading a track to the BBC Introducing Uploader, tagging it “Scotland 2025.” Full terms and privacy details can be found at BBC Radio Scotland.

After the submission period closes, a panel of judges will whittle down the entries to four finalists who will battle it out in front of a live audience, televised by BBC Scotland later in the year.

The talent search officially launched during BBC Introducing in Scotland on Friday evening on BBC Radio Scotland. The broadcast featured a live music session from Bottle Rockets, the Glasgow indie-rock band who won the title in 2024. After a standout year of touring and performing at major festivals, they’re ready to hand over the title to the next Scottish Act of the Year.

Heather Kane Darling, commissioning editor BBC Scotland, said: “I am thrilled to see the return of BBC Introducing’s Scottish Act of the Year for 2025. This talent search is a fantastic example of how BBC Introducing provides a vital platform for Scotland’s emerging musical talent. We are lucky to have such a rich music scene in this country, and I can’t wait to see the incredible acts that will come forward this year.”

Last year’s winners Bottle Rockets added: “Winning BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year was such an unreal moment for us as a band. We were just excited to be there and so to win was amazing! It’s been a mad year for us ever since and we can’t thank everyone at the BBC enough for all the support.”

BBC Introducing in Scotland champions the best unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar music Scotland has to offer every Friday night from 8-10pm on BBC Radio Scotland. This competition represents a vital part of its mission to spotlight emerging Scottish artists and support the country’s thriving music community.
