Prime greenlights Manchester drama from Oscar nominated writer of Bridge of Spies

Prime Video is launching a new UK original drama, from Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies, Treason, Hostage).

Dirty is described as a “gripping, emotionally charged crime thriller” offering a “fresh and provocative” take on a British police drama.

It’s about trainee Detective Eva Bennett, who returns to Manchester and joins a new homicide investigation run by her “fearsome estranged mother” Detective Chief Inspector Lois Mercer. As they navigate their complicated relationship and long-buried truths resurface, Eva starts to uncover Lois’ crimes, “forcing an impossible choice between justice and blood.”

“I love the power and the volatility of these two women. There are no limits on what either of them is capable of, which makes the potential of every scene explosive,” said Charman.

“Nicole and the entire team at Amazon understood the show instantly — they’re deeply passionate about the blend of character-driven drama and relentless propulsion. I can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking up.”

Production is set to begin in September this year and will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide as part of Amazon MGM Studios’ global slate of premium international scripted series.

“Having long admired Matt’s exceptional work, I am thrilled we are collaborating with him on this remarkable project,” said Nicole Clemens, Vice President of International Originals Amazon MGM Studios.

“Centred on two extraordinarily powerful women, it delivers the bold, character-driven storytelling that Global Prime Video audiences have come to expect, and we look forward to sharing it with viewers around the world.”

It’s produced by Charman’s Binocular (Treason, Hostage, Prisoner) in association with Amazon MGM Studios. Foz Allan serves as Executive Producer.
