ITV has begun filming its first drama since the Covid-19 lockdown, in Manchester.

Noel Clarke leads an all-star cast in Viewpoint, a 5-part drama following a police surveillance investigation into a tight-knit Manchester community. It explores whether it’s possible to observe the lives of others with true objectivity and zero effect.

The drama is based on an idea by Fleabag and Killing Eve director, Harry Bradbeer and was co-created and written by Ed Whitemore (Safe House, Manhunt).

“Harry and Ed have crafted a compelling, tense, claustrophobic thriller that turns the spotlight on the observer rather than the observed.  With the incredible Noel Clarke and Alexandra Roach leading the cast, we are extremely excited to be back in production,” said Lucy Bedford, Head of Drama, Tiger Aspect Productions and Executive Producer.

Filming is taking place at Space Studios and a number of locations across the city, which are being facilitated by Screen Manchester.

Ashley Way (White Lines) is the Director and Clare Shepherd (The A Word) is producing.

However, the announcement comes at the same time as Noel Clarke told an audience at the Edinburgh TV Festival that he had to take a stand on an unnamed show, he was currently working on.

“I’m on a job now which I can’t mention and I came in on Day One and I’m the lead actor I was like: ‘the crew’s not diverse enough, fix it, fix it’.

“[They said] ‘Yeah but…’ [I said] ’I don’t want to hear anything else fix it’. I don’t care if there’s trainees because this job’s trainees is the next job’s runner then the next job’s assistant, then they’re a supervisor, then in five year’s time or three year’s time we have more people in the business from different backgrounds; socio-economic, not just about colour.”

Viewpoint is a Tiger Aspect productino, in association with Unstoppable Film and Television.
