The City of Newcastle is preparing to launch the Newcastle Creates Cultural Narrative, a document that captures the spirit of the vibrant city as it stands today.
This first edition, created by Newcastle Creates and led by Jim Mawdsley, will “provide an understanding of Newcastle’s past, present, and future for residents, visitors, and policymakers alike.”
Alongside the launch of the document, taking place at the city’s Grey’s Monument on Saturday June 10 at noon, Newcastle Creates will also unveil a large-scale illustration by Lines Behind that celebrates the city’s cultural landscape.
The narrative has been produced to tell the story of culture in Newcastle, encapsulating many areas of existing cultural expression and celebrating the depth and breadth of culture in the city. There will also be an opportunity at the event for members of the public to add their thoughts about what the culture of the city means to them.
Newcastle Creates is a co-operative organisation that encourages people from a diverse range of backgrounds and organisations to join as members. The aim is to ensure a collaborative approach, bringing people from across sectors and communities together to shape and develop the cultural life of the city.
The organisation has been tasked with setting a bold new agenda for culture in Newcastle, one that will put culture at the heart of the city, its communities and sustainable social and economic development.
