A £2m investment pot is being made available to address the “chronic shortage” of female-led businesses in the creative sector.
Be More Boss is being led by Creative England, in partnership with Facebook and Creative Review.
The social media campaign hopes to encourage more women working in the creative industries to start their own businesses and, for those who have, to apply for investment.
Kate Bones, a GIF artist and photographer has produced profiles of 4 female leaders, which have been specifically formatted for Instagram and Facebook.
“Kate Bones’s work profiles these four innovative women in a beautiful, eye-catching way. With the wonderful support of Facebook and Creative Review, we really hope this campaign will inspire more female entrepreneurs to ‘Be More Boss’ and start their own companies. And when they do, we’re here to support them,” explained Dawn Paine, chief marketing and strategy officer of Creative England.
Bec Evans, co-founder of Prolifiko, one of those supported by Creative England added:
“Starting a business is tough. But for female-founders it’s even harder – only 9% of funding goes to female-led businesses. The saying ‘you can’t be what you can’t see’ might be overused, but it remains depressingly true.
“That’s why I’m proud to be involved in Creative England’s campaign to support female-leaders in the creative industries. As women gain more visibility they become role models that inspire a generation of girls and young women to start their businesses. Which is good for women, good for business and good for the UK economy.”
