Digital design studio magneticNorth has worked with Co-op and SORTEDfood to create a free online cooking course to inspire the nation to get cooking.

A recent Co-op report found that young people across the country are failing to gain essential cooking skills, with one in four 18-35 year olds not interested in learning how to cook.

To tackle this, Co-op partnered with YouTube cooking channel SORTEDfood to launch Now Cook It, a new website with easy to follow cooking instructions.

magneticNorth was appointed by Co-op to bring Now Cook It to life, collaborating with SORTEDfood to design a “simple, engaging interactive experience”.

As well as being fully optimised for mobile, all recipes, know-how guides and status rewards are shareable via social media.

Ian Wareing, development manager at magneticNorth, said “Co-op and SORTEDfood are two organisations each with community at their heart and a belief in the power of the collective – something we share here at mN.

“We can’t wait for the young people of Britain to prove what they’re capable of in the kitchen (with a little helping hand) and look forward to seeing how Now Cook It develops going forwards.”

Richard Pennycook, CEO at Co-op, said: “Our exciting partnership with SORTEDfood is a modern day interpretation of Co-op’s longstanding commitment to help equip a new generation with a different, but equally important, set of skills and making them accessible for all.”

Founded in 2000, magneticNorth recently worked with the BBC on its latest 500 Words competition.
