magneticNorth is to use digital technology as part of a brand new visitor tour for Lincoln Castle.
The Manchester-based agency is creating an immersive “Castle Explorer” experience, to guide people around the newly restored Victorian prison at the historic site.
“Our aim is to enhance a visit to the castle by providing simple routes to archive material and by adding an element of play to the discovery of facts and stories,” explained Adam Todd, creative director at magneticNorth.
Todd and his team are working alongside Lincolnshire County Council to explore untold stories from the castle’s history. These include Castle Characters; the Home Front; Victorian Prison Life; Crime and Punishment; and Prisoner Stories.
Visitors who want a more relaxed tablet experience, will be able to sit in the women’s prison’s lounge area and explore short stories, while those with more energy can use it to engage with the archeological artefacts on display.
The visitor experience will build on the success of Lincoln Castle Revealed, a £22m project, to restore the castle to its former glory.
“During the Lincoln Castle Revealed project, archaeologists and researchers have delved through history, uncovering intriguing artefacts and many fascinating stories,” said Cllr Nick Worth, executive member for culture and heritage at Lincolnshire County Council.
“Working with Magnetic North we’ll bring these stories to life, enabling visitors to ‘dig deeper’ into the history of the castle, using digital technology in an innovative way.”
