Booking.com, the leading digital travel platform which is set to move into a new, bespoke Manchester HQ for the UK within weeks, expects searches for accommodation to soar now that Liverpool has been confirmed as host city of the 2023 Eorovision Song Contest.

The result of the long-running saga to host the annual musical massacre was finally revealed on BBC One’s The One Show on Friday evening, although fans had already been hedging their bets, it seems. Booking.com revealed that, ahead of the hotly anticipated announcement, the favourite, Glasgow was its most-booked UK destination for May 2023, when the event will take place, followed by Liverpool, at that point the second favourite in a field of two.

“When Liverpool and Glasgow were announced as the two potential host cities last month, we saw searches triple compared to the previous year, and we expect them to be of more interest again now that Liverpool has been confirmed,” said Arjan Dijk, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Booking.com. “As the official travel partner for the Eurovision Song Contest for the third year running, we’re excited to make it easier for fans to experience and explore all that the city has to offer as they come together and celebrate one of the world’s biggest and most loved live music events.”

The Eurovision announcement neatly coincides with Marketing Liverpool’s Autumn/Winter collection campaign, which is already seeking to bring more visitors to the North West city, and encourage them to stay for longer.

Founded in 1996 in Amsterdam, Booking.com has grown from a small Dutch startup to one of the world’s leading digital travel companies.
