A Leeds marketing agency which worked with companies including Decathlon, LNER and the Grand National has closed down.

Banana Kick appointed administrators yesterday.

Julien Irving and Patrick Lannagan of Mazars LLP in Manchester said that the company had now ceased trading.

Co-founded in 2008 by Nick Goring and Gary McCall, at its peak the agency employed 43 staff, with a turnover of £4m.

Goring stepped down in 2017, with McCall becoming the majority shareholder and heading up its parent operation, Banana Kick Group.

According to the most recently filed accounts for Banana Kick Ltd, its bank borrowings had increased to £100,000 (2019: £5453), which were secured “by way of fixed and floating” charges over the assets of the company.

Staff found out the news 24 hours ago:

“I’ve made friends for life and had some of my happiest memories with the team, to say we’re all devastated is an unbelievable understatement,” wrote its Senior Designer, Felicity Ann Clark, on LinkedIn.

“If you see any other Banana Kickers crop up, give them a shot! They’re the absolute salt of the earth grafters, and you won’t regret giving them a chance!”

Duncan Liddle, its former Business Development Manager, joined IDHL earlier this month and added:

“Thanks Gary McCall for a hugely valuable 3 years at Banana Kick. From elves to dinosaurs to reindeers and everything in between there has been a stupendous variety of projects delivered.”

The company’s website and social media have been taken down.
