ITV has commissioned a new six-part drama from Red Production Company that stars Keeley Hawes as a woman whose life is turned upside down by the sudden death of her husband.

Finding Alice (6 x 60’) focuses upon Alice’s honest, raw, blackly comic journey of grief, love and life after her husband Harry is killed when falling down the stairs at the couple’s newly finished dream house.

His death kicks up a storm of secrets and mess, debt, suspicion and criminality which Alice is forced to confront in order to survive.

Written by Roger Goldby (The Durrells, The Musketeers, Call The Midwife as Director) and Simon Nye (The Durrells, Tommy Cooper: Not Like That Like This, How Do You Want Me?), Finding Alice is produced by Manchester-based Red Production Company in association with Bright Pictures TV, Buddy Club Productions and Genial Productions

ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill, who commissioned the six-parter, said: “This is a brilliant script – emotionally truthful and darkly funny. It’s about family and grief and introduces us to the wonderfully original character of Alice.

“The show has been developed with Keeley Hawes, and Alice was written for her, and she is going to be unmissable in the role.”

Red Productions’ founder Nicola Shindler (Butterfly, Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax, Scott & Bailey) will take the role of executive producer alongside Goldby, Nye and Hawes, the latter pictured above in her recent role in hit BBC One drama Boyguard.

Shindler said: “When Keeley, Roger and Simon came to me with Finding Alice I was so excited to find a project about a complex, flawed and funny woman in such extreme circumstances who I felt an audience would fall in love with. This is exactly the kind of drama I love to make at Red and look forward to starting shooting.”

Hawes added: “I have been a huge fan of Nicola Shindler for many years and I’m thrilled to be working with her at last on Finding Alice.”

Filming for Finding Alice will commence in January 2020.
