ITV psychological thriller Bancroft returns to Greater Manchester for second series

Sarah Parish is to return as Bancroft in a second series of the psychological thriller, filmed on location in Greater Manchester.

Written by Kate Brooke and produced by Tall Story pictures, Parish (W1A, Broadchurch, Medici) returns to the role of ruthless Elizabeth Bancroft in four new episodes, created and written by Kate Brooke (A Discovery of Witches, Mr Selfridge, Ice Cream Girls, The Making of a Lady).

The new series sees Sarah Parish joined by Charlotte Hope (The Spanish Princess, Game of Thrones) as Annabel Connors, Joe Bancroft’s fiancé, David Avery (The Night Manager, Starred Up, Borderline) in the role of Detective Superintendent Jake Harper and Jacqueline Boatswain (Cuckoo, Collateral) as Chief Constable Frances Holland.

Adrian Edmondson (War & Peace, Prey), Adam Long (The Bay, Happy Valley, Home Fires), Lee Boardman (Peterloo, The Five, The Last Kingdom), Charles Babalola (Broadchurch, Thirteen, Mary Magdalene), Ryan McKen (Save Me, Strangers, The State), and Shameem Ahmad (Cold Feet, Love, Lies and Records) also return for the new series, which will be produced by Simon Meyers (No Offence, Waterloo Road, Holby City).

A first look at series one of Bancroft

Directed by Lawrence Gough (Doctor Who, Snatch), the new series opens with Bancroft at the height of her career. The drama focuses on her continuing success and her enhanced reputation as a ‘good cop’ – but her success has come at a price.

Parish said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to the role of Bancroft and inhabiting her complex life which Kate has crafted so well. Bancroft is such a contentious anti-heroine and as a character she offers me so much to work with. Manipulative and strategic with her thinking she knows how to get what she wants. The question is, what will this cold-blooded killer do next in order to defend her son?”

The second series will be executive produced by Kate Brooke alongside Patrick Schweitzer and Catherine Oldfield.

The first series of Bancroft was one of ITV’s best performing dramas of 2017 with a series average of 6.7 million and a 25.1% share of the available audience.
