We can now reveal a number of gaming leaders set to speak at Prolific North’s brand new event, Unlocking the Next Level of Liverpool’s Gaming Industry, which will be hosted on May 23 in Liverpool.

This event will unite those working across the gaming sector in Liverpool to address the challenges they’re currently facing and opportunities for the future, whether that’s talent, recognition as a gaming hub, or access to investment and infrastructure.

Following introductions, the first panel will be a deep dive into Liverpool’s gaming sector and what makes it unique. Joining the panel will be Phil Owen, head of engineering at d3t, a video games co-development studio.

Phil Owen started his career in games in 1994. During that time, he has worked for Juice Games and TT Fusion before moving to d3t, where as head of engineering he focuses on discovering new talent and expanding and leading the engineering team. Owen’s career has seen him credited on over 40 titles across numerous platforms, including LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Harry Potter, Alan Wake Remastered, and Hogwarts Legacy.

Also joining Phil Owen on the panel is Clemens Wangerin, founder of Digital Advisors.

Clemens Wangerin has been part of the games industry since 1993. After moving to Liverpool in 1997 to work at Psygnosis, he became studio director when the company merged with Sony Computer Entertainment. Wangerin left Sony in 2009, and ever since has been involved in several tech start-ups in the city. In his most recent role, he served as the CEO of a VC-backed innovation studio vTime, specialising in the development of VR/AR games and gaming-adjacent applications.

Following a special keynote speaker set to be revealed soon, there will be a second panel session to tackle what’s next for Liverpool’s gaming sector, from talent to the future, how this gaming hub can build on its reputation and support future success.

One of the speakers taking part on this panel is Alison Lacy, Location Manager at Avalanche Studios Group’s Liverpool Studio.
