Hatch takes some Northern hospitality to the capital’s community MMarkets

Mercato Metropolitano

Leeds HQ’d creative comms agency Hatch is taking some Northern hospitality down South after its appointment by sustainable food market, Mercato Metropolitano London (MM).

Mercato Metropolitano is London’s first collection of sustainable, community food markets, focused on regenerating and revitalising urban neighbourhoods and building communities around good, healthy, and affordable food for everyone.

Hatch will work with MM on a retained basis to deliver external communications and support its ambitious growth plans under its ‘Mmovement,’ an initiative centred around community inclusion, seasonal produce, nutritious food, and the preservation of the environment.

MM currently operates a number of community markets across London in Elephant and Castle, Mayfair, Wood Wharf, Elephant Park and soon Ilford having converted disused locations, such as old factories and churches, into thriving, sustainable food markets that bring local communities together.

Hatch, which specialises in food and drink PR, social media, activation and content production, was appointed following a successful three-month PR and social media campaign for the markets.

The campaign saw MM launch its DreaMM programme – a community-focused initiative which offered budding entrepreneurs the chance to join the MMovement with a rent-free, three-month tenure in one of MM’s vibrant community markets. Hatch delivered an integrated PR and social media campaign to drive applications for the initiative, as well as supporting with the delivery of the official Pitch Day and winner announcement event this summer.

Following the success of that campaign, as well as a similar campaign focussed on female entrepreneurs in partnership with MM and social housing group Peabody pre-covid, Hatch has now been appointed on a retained PR basis to work alongside MM in achieving its ambitious growth plans – including a new site opening in Ilford later this year.

Helen Simpson, performance and development director at Hatch, said: “The work that Mercato Metropolitano London does, not only for its local communities but for the environment too, is truly a story that deserves telling – and we’re delighted to be working alongside them to help them communicate this inspiring story.

“With ambitious growth plans and new sites in the pipeline, it’s an exciting time for the MMovement, and we look forward to working together to continue this momentum.”

Sameer Rana, CMO of Mercato Metropolitano London, added: “Hatch shares our passion for Community and Food. They have been instrumental in driving the success of our DreaMM campaign, generating impressive and tangible results. I am delighted to have them onboard as an integral part of our team.”

Food and drink has been at the heart of Hatch’s client roster since it was founded 15 years ago, and MM joins restaurant clients including Six by Nico and The Ivy, alongside household name brands Diageo, George Foreman, Hisense and Russell Hobbs, on the agency’s portfolio.
