Harrison Ford heads home in Glenmorangie sequel – with Northern agency and Hollywood star behind the scenes

Creative agency John Doe has reunited with Hollywood legend Harrison Ford and Glenmorangie for a new instalment of its Once Upon a Time in Scotland campaign – this time swapping the Highlands for the star’s home state of Wyoming.

The latest film marks a continuation of the brand’s partnership with Ford and forms part of a wider push that also sees Glenmorangie move into product innovation, with a limited-edition whisky shaped by the actor’s own taste.

Created by agency John Doe – which has offices in Glasgow, Manchester and London – and directed by fellow Hollywood big hitter Joel Edgerton, the new episode builds on the tone and storytelling of the original series, which launched last year.

While the first run of films followed Ford’s journey through the Scottish Highlands, the new spot flips the narrative. Shot in Wyoming, it sees the actor reflecting on his time in Scotland before tasting the whisky on camera for the first time.

And in keeping with the campaign’s self-aware humour, there’s one detail that hasn’t changed – Ford is once again wearing a kilt.

The original series of ads was a run of 12.

At the time, Harrison said: “My father used to be in advertising, and I remember how bureaucratic it all is. I think it’s a tribute to Glenmorangie’s sensibilities that they let us be less than totally serious. Credit to them for letting us play. I think it’s fun to not be as structured and ‘strictured’ as a commercial.”

“Harrison Ford is the real deal: a true global icon, and a genuine whisky lover,” explained Caspar MacRae, President & CEO of The Glenmorangie Company.

“It was a dream come true to collaborate on this campaign, and welcome him to our home in the Highlands to discover more about Glenmorangie. He is someone who has honed his craft over decades, which gives him a real appreciation for the dedication and skill of our distillery team.  Like us, he’s not afraid to laugh at himself – and I think Joel has perfectly captured his authentic warmth, alongside his roguish sense of humour.

“We hope whisky lovers around the world will enjoy exploring the episodes, and learning more about the real people and places behind our whiskies, through Harrison’s eyes.”
