Glasgow chef lands Netflix starring role

A Glasgow chef has landed a starring role in a Netflix travel show hosted by the Everybody Loves Raymond creator Philip Rosenthal.

Season 7 of Somebody Feed Phil, which launched on Netflix at the weekend, saw host Rosenthal drop in at gaga on Dumbarton Road, where he met with chef Julie Lin for “delicious scran, delightful cocktails and a good old chat about life.”

Lin, who serves up Malaysian food with a Scottish twist, is no stranger to the small screen having previously appeared on both Saturday Kitchen and the Hairy Bikers Go Local last year. She is also a former Masterchef quarter-finalist.

The chef served up Malaysian style lobster, mutton curry and nasi goreng for Rosenthal’s visit with dining guest, food writer Julia Bryce.

Rosenthal said: “Aside from hearing great things about gaga from a number of different sources, we loved the idea of trying a Malaysian restaurant in Scotland. And it did not disappoint, not to mention how wonderfully charming Julie is.

“As we find almost everywhere we go, the people are what makes Scotland so special. The food is wonderful and the scenery and history are outstanding, but it’s always the people.”

Gaga added on Instagram: “Last year we had the man, the myth, the legend Phil Rosenthal visit us in Ga Ga. @phil.rosenthal we’ve been following his adventures around the globe for years so when the email came through we were absolutely pinching ourselves.

“The episode celebrates our mission to celebrate mixed Malaysian food and broaden the ideals of ‘authenticity’ we are so extremely grateful to have a platform to be able to talk about this on. Thank you to the whole camera crew and Phil.”
