Former Radio 5 live presenter Phil Williams is to host a new evening show on News UK’s Times Radio, which is launching later this month.

Williams, who left 5 live last year after 18 years, will analyse the day’s news, sport and entertainment from 7pm on Monday to Thursday.

He said: “My show will analyse the day’s news without leaving listeners feeling overwhelmed by it.

“We’ll also be covering sport, entertainment and culture each night, giving contributors the space to speak without constant interruption, and offering the evening listener a friendly place to relax with the radio.”

The new digital speech station, which will not carry advertising, has today revealed its full slate of presenters ahead of its official launch at 6am on Monday June 29th.

Mariella Frostrup will host the early afternoon slot on Monday to Thursday with a show focusing on arts, culture and social issues, plus celebrity interviews.

Giles Coren and Hugo Rifkind will anchor their own programmes, while Rachel Sylvester and Alice Thomson are to host an interview series.

Other presenters already announced include John Pienaar, the BBC’s deputy political editor, who will present Monday to Thursday drivetime, and Cathy Newman, the Channel 4 News host, who is to be the Friday drivetime presenter.

Aasmah Mir, Stig Abell and Michael Portillo are also involved, while Tim Levell, formerly of 5 live, is Programme Director.

Times Radio is a partnership between The Times, The Sunday Times and Wireless, the audio business.

It’s been launched to challenge Radio 4 and its main commercial purpose is to attract “young, aspirational” subscribers to The Times.
