Lancashire Cricket has appointed Richard Kenyon as the club’s new chief executive officer, the “outstanding candidate from an exceptionally strong field,” according to the club’s chair.
A Lancashire supporter based in Southport, Kenyon previously held senior executive roles as chief commercial & communications officer at Everton Football Club and chief executive officer of Everton in the Community. Prior to his Everton roles, he was CEO of leading North West comms consultancy Kenyon Fraser for around a decade, is a former chair of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and holds non-executive directorial roles at both England Netball and the Netball Super League. He also recently served a spell at Manchester comms agency Social.
Kenyon joins from Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, where he has served as chief executive officer since 2025.
During more than a decade at Everton, Kenyon played a pivotal role in the delivery of the club’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock and developed valuable experience across both elite sport and charitable sectors.
The appointment follows the announcement earlier this year that current CEO Daniel Gidney will retire at the end of the year, bringing to a close 14 years of leadership and service at Lancashire Cricket.
Kenyon said: “I am deeply honoured to be appointed chief executive officer of Lancashire Cricket. This is a club with a proud history, passionate members and supporters, and tremendous ambition. To have the opportunity to play a leading role in the next chapter of its journey is a real privilege.
“I’m excited to work alongside Dame Sarah [Storey, Lancashire Cricket chair], the board, the executive team, our players, staff and members to build on the foundations that have been established and help drive the club forward, both on and off the field, over the coming years.
“It is a fantastic opportunity and one that I’m really looking forward to getting stuck into. The ambition and vision of the new board were among the key factors in my decision to join the club. There is a great deal of work ahead, but I’m absolutely determined to ensure Lancashire is once again recognised as one of the most competitive and successful counties in the country.”
Kenyon added that his connection to the club stretches back to the 1980s, when he watched the team take on West Indies at Southport and Birkdale Cricket Club in 1984. He added: “I have loved visiting Emirates Old Trafford with family and friends for Lancashire games and Test matches over the last forty years. To now have the opportunity to lead this great club as chief executive officer is incredibly special and is a responsibility I take very seriously.”
Lancashire Cricket chair Storey added: “Richard brings a wealth of leadership experience, a strong understanding of professional sport, and valuable previous experience within the game. He also already has a deep connection to the Red Rose, which I felt was important.
“We have an incredibly strong foundation to build upon, and Richard’s leadership will be instrumental as we continue to develop the club, both on and off the field, and drive Lancashire Cricket forward.”
She added: “Finally, I would like to thank Daniel Gidney for his exceptional leadership, commitment and service as our outgoing chief executive. His contribution to Lancashire Cricket has been immense, and we wish him every success for the future.”
Kenyon will take up the role at Emirates Old Trafford later this year, with further details to follow.
