Emma Barnett has opened her first day as presenter of Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour with a message from the Queen.

Barnett left Radio 5 Live in December to replace Jane Garvey and Dame Jenni Murray as the presenter of the long-running programme.

And she opened her first programme today with a message from Her Majesty recognising its 75th year.

The message read: “As you celebrate your 75th year, it is with great pleasure that I send my best wishes to the listeners and all those associated with Woman’s Hour.

“During this time, you have witnessed and played a significant part in the evolving role of women across society, both here and around the world.

“In this notable anniversary year, I wish you continued success in your important work as a friend, guide and advocate to women everywhere.”

Barnett, who presented The Emma Barnett show on weekday mornings on 5 live for three years, has previously been the youngest ever guest host of Woman’s Hour and has presented its late-night spin-off.
