“Doing a podcast is an ambition I’ve had since Meanwhile booked me” – Manchester agency pulls Bez in for “not an agency podcast”

Manchester agency Meanwhile is launching an off-kilter advertising and marketing podcast co-hosted by Happy Monday’s Bez, entitled ‘This Is An Ambitious Podcast,’ aimed at providing “not an agency podcast,” but something truly unique and genuinely entertaining within the industry.

The show is hosted Meanwhile CCO and founder James Cross, alongside Bez, interviewing guests about the role of ambition within the brands they represent and their career journeys. With the promise of snackable 20 minute episodes, early guests include Helen Dean (head of brand and creative at Pets At Home), Steve Seddon (CMO at TravelSupermarket) and Charlotte Lord (head of brand and marketing at Chester Zoo), with more to follow.

To mark the launch, the podcast will be recorded for a live episode on the Factory Stage at MAD//North in Manchester this Wednesday (February 25) in a suitably ambitious fashion. The live episode will feature a chat with Hannah Brotherton, head of brand and demand generation at tombola, along with Meanwhile CSO, Simon Gregory.

Meanwhile CEO Al Marchant said: “We’ve toyed with podcasting for a while, and wanted to do it in a Meanwhile way. Whilst we promise not to talk about ourselves at all, we feel there is room for something far less serious and ‘navel-gazy’ within our industry, something that does away with the back-patting and overly complex analysis of what we do. And this will hopefully remind everyone that audience entertainment isn’t something we should overlook.”

Bez added: “I couldn’t imagine what I’d be doing at 62, but being sat doing a podcast is an ambition I’ve had since Meanwhile booked me.”

The show launches tomorrow (Tuesday 24th February) and is available on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music.

Meanwhile was founded in 2022 by BAFTA-winning former BBC Creative directors James Cross and Tim Jones, along with former Chapter managing director, Al Marchant. The agency was named Campaign Start-Up Agency of the Year and its clients include tombola, Travel Supermarket, Comic Relief, Chester Zoo, Coventry Building Society, parkrun, Liverpool FC, Netflix and Barnardo’s.
