Michelle Dignan has been announced as the next presenter of BBC Radio Manchester’s breakfast show, taking over from Becky Want next month.
Wythenshawe-born Dignan has, for the past 10 years, worked as a travel presenter on Radio 5 Live, and previously presented on Key 103 – now Hits Radio.
Want, who has been presenting the breakfast show for the past 18 months, returns to her afternoon slot, while Phil Trow moves to late-night, presenting between 10pm and 1am.
Dignan will host the 6am – 10am from Monday to Thursday, while Anna Jameson becomes the Friday and Saturday breakfast presenter, with Simone Riley hosting from 10am – 2pm on Friday and Saturday daytimes.
Talking about her move, Dignan said: “I’m unbelievably excited to be presenting BBC Radio Manchester’s breakfast show.
“And I can’t wait to be reunited with newsreader extraordinaire Paul ‘Locko’ Lockitt. I’m not quite the care-free 21-year-old girl about town I was when I last worked with him at Key 103 – I now come with a husband, 2 kids and a dog – but I’m sure we’ll still have fun!”
Kate Squire, BBC Radio Manchester Editor, added: “I’m absolutely delighted Michelle Dignan is going to be presenting our breakfast show. She’s a brilliant broadcaster and being born and brought up in Wythenshawe she knows what makes Greater Manchester tick. I just know our listeners are going to love her.”
