Digital learning provider Hyper Island is set to host a groundbreaking panel in the Keynote Theatre at next month’s Digital City Expo on the potential and pitfalls of the metaverse.

Hyper Island, which is headquartered in Stockholm and also has locations in Manchester, London and Singapore, is planning a discussion to ask the question ‘Is it madness, magic or mayhem?’ which you can join by registering to attend the expo.

Rebecca Taylor PhD, Academic Lead & Programme Leader at Hyper Island, will be joined by special guests – both proponents and challengers of the metaverse – to speak at 11am on Thursday, March 10th in the Keynote Theatre.

Digital City Expo at Manchester Central forms a central part of Digital City Festival, which takes place from March 7th – 11th all across Manchester, bringing together digital professionals to celebrate the sector.

Taylor will be joined by Greg Ashton, Senior Service Designer at the Department for Work & Pensions; Robyn Ainsworth, Social Strategy & Communications at digital fashion house The Fabricant, Amsterdam; Che-Guevara John, Leeds Beckett University’s Course Director of Games Design + Computer Animation & VFX; Chris Guerin, Metaverse Curator, CEO & Founder at MediaCity-based Xpllore; along with Hera Hussain, Social Entrepreneur, CEO & Founder at Chayn, the global nonprofit specialising in supporting survivors of gender-based violence.

They’ll look at the extent to which the metaverse is already affecting our lives, who is confident or curious about the innovation, and encourage attendees to reflect upon their own reality.

The full agenda for Digital City Expo features thought leaders across tech, ecommerce, media and marketing, speaking across both days of the expo on a wide range of topics. To see timings and titles revealed so far, click here.
