Rachel McDonald has been named as the first ever managing director of Dentsu Aegis Network North.

It’s part of a wider leadership shake-up, following Elliot Muscant’s decision to step down as CEO. COO John Mathieson will also take on an extended remit.

McDonald, who’s currently MD of Carat Manchester, will oversee the operation of 4 offices in the North, including Carat, iProspect, Vizeum, Amplifi and Fetch.

“Rachel has played a fundamental role in developing the innovative thinking and collaborative approach that is central to the success for our Northern business,” added Dave Lucas, chairman, Dentsu Aegis Network North.

“As part of this, she consistently empowers everyone around her to think differently to produce the best work possible, and as a result is greatly respected by clients, colleagues and media partners. I know she will lead the business with distinction to maintain its growth and success.”

She originally joined the company in its previous guise of MediaVest in 2001 and will now report directly into Stef Calcraft, the executive chairman of Dentsu Aegis Network UK & Ireland.

“Dentsu Aegis North has an undeniable entrepreneurial spirit, a hugely talented leadership team and continues to retain and attract the best talent in our industry. Our ambitions for growth are accelerating and I am confident and excited to lead the business through its next chapter and maintain our position as the largest agency group outside of London,” said McDonald.

She starts the role with immediate effect and will remain in charge of Carat Manchester while they recruit for a successor.

Meanwhile, Mathieson’s extended role means working alongside Matthew Platts, CEO of Media Brands, UK & Ireland to drive greater integration across Dentsu Aegis Network North.
