A gloomy gangster film that improbably stars much-loved 80s and 90s kids’ TV star Paul Chuckle and was shot in Warrington is set to be released this month.
Fall to the Top is a gangster film directed by Pere Hirst that was filmed in the Cheshire town last year.
The film follows a young Irish man who is trying to better himself and becomes embroiled in the murky world of drugs and gangs.
77-year-old Chuckle, who is best known for his comedic performances as one half if “to you, to me” comic duo the Chuckle Brothers takes on a somewhat darker persona for his latest on-screen outing.
“Having Paul in a darker role is something truly special,” sdirector Hirst told the Warrington Guardian. “He’s known for his comedy but in Fall to the Top audiences will see a completely different side to him that will leave them astounded.”

The film also stars George Newton, Joe Egan, Pete Bennet and Liverpool actor, model and N.E.S.T. Project star Johnny Wilson, who suggested shooting the film in Warrington.
The movie used a variety of locations in Warrington, including Doherty’s Irish Bar, on Bold Street, The Blue Bell, on Horsemarket Street, and the Hideaway Café, on Buttermarket Street.
“Warrington provided a mix of friendly locals who were willing to jump in and star, and the beauty of scenery needed to show everyday community life in the films setting,” Hirst added.
warringThe film will premiere at Sheffield Light Cinema on September 28 as part of the Spirit of Independence Film Festival, with all tickets to the first screening selling out within two weeks.
The Chuckle Brothers were comprised of real life Rotherham brothers Paul and Barry Chuckle, real names Barry David Elliott, the elder brother who passed away in 2018, and Paul Chuckle, real name Paul Harman Elliott.
They were known for their hit BBC children’s programme ChuckleVision, which aired from 1987 to 2009 and celebrated its twenty-first series with a 2010 stage tour titled An Audience with the Chuckle Brothers. The comedy of the Chuckle Brothers usually derived from slapstick, other visual gags, and wordplay, including their infamous catchphrase.
