Children’s Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce throws weight behind North West agency’s annual Christmas book appeal

Agent, the leading North West marketing agency, is once again asking local businesses to step forward with book donations for the children who need them most this Christmas.

As part of its All You Read is Love campaign, Agent has donated over £65,000 worth of books to more than 5,000 young people since 2020. This year, the campaign has also been backed by the National Literacy Trust (NLT) and Children’s Laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce for the first time.

Recent research by the NLT found that just one-in-five children read in their free time, with many not having any access to books as the cost-of-living crisis deepens. Agent is appealing to like-minded businesses to bring a donation of books to their Liverpool or Manchester studios before gifting the books across the North West. Agent has partnered with several local youth organisations, schools and charities to ensure the books reach those most in need of vital reading skills and supplies.

In support of the campaign, award-winning writer Frank Cottrell-Boyce, author of Millions and Cosmic and creator of eighties Brookside spin-off Damon and Debbie, said: “Alongside Agent and my own Reading Rights: Books Build a Brighter Future campaign with BookTrust, I once again call on national and local leaders to come together and make the magic of reading a part of daily life for every child. A book is for life, not just for Christmas!”

All You Read is Love is a cherished annual tradition for Agent, with support from global book distributor Publiship, to ensure as many children as possible wake up to a gift on Christmas morning and start their reading journeys.

Agent is accepting book donations at its Manchester and Liverpool studios until 9 December 2025, with major organisations such as Northern Rail, MSB Solicitors, CGI, Open Media and the Big Heart Book Club already gifting hundreds of books.

As a mark of further support for the National Literacy Trust, Agent colleagues are committing their own time to volunteer and improve literacy skills in local schools and community groups across the region.

Paul Corcoran, Agent CEO and founder, said: “All You Read is Love is more important than ever, allowing children to start their reading journey, opening worlds of adventure, development and opportunity. I am incredibly proud of our colleagues collaborating with the National Literacy Trust to make a direct impact in our communities and share their own skills and love of books!

“This year, we are determined to make it a Christmas to remember for eager young minds. Every child should wake up to a gift under the tree, and if you can help us, we want to hear from you!”
