Channel 4 outlines new Creative Contract

Channel 4 has published a new Creative Contract, in order to better develop its relationship with indies.

It has made 5 commitments to speed up the commissioning process:

  • Its commissioning teams aim to respond to initial proposals within 10 working days with an indication of next steps – this may be longer with scripted genres.
  • It is reducing the maximum period of time to make decisions on funded development from 9 to 6 months in non-scripted genres. On developments under £20k that it chooses not to commission, it will no longer try to recover the money if placed elsewhere;
  • Once greenlit, commissioning and commercial affairs teams will wok together to minimise the time it takes between the conditional decision and getting the editorial specification, budget and commissioning agreement finalised;
  • It is launching a new training programme for all commissioners in the New Year;
  • It will share more audience insight and performance data.

Channel 4 stated:

“We want your businesses to flourish and achieve global success with C4 as a partner, and we’ll do all we can to help achieve that.

“We always want to receive your candid feedback on how you find working with us, and how we can work together most creatively and productively.”

Channel 4 is set to announce its new national headquarters and two creative hubs later this year.
