Carragher to resume Sky Sports role after spitting ban

Jamie Carragher looks set to resume his role as a pundit on Sky Sports after being suspended in March for spitting at a 14-year-old girl and her father.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Liverpool footballer will return for the start of the Premier League campaign next month after being given a final warning during a meeting with Sky Sports managing director Barney Francis.

Carragher was travelling home from Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United when he was filmed spitting out of his car window in the direction of another car carrying the teenager and her father.

He has now assured Sky Sports that the incident was a one-off and will not be repeated.

A Sky spokesman said: “We’ve spoken to Jamie and reminded him of the standards we expect at Sky Sports. He has shown remorse, is hugely apologetic for the offence he caused and has taken the appropriate steps to make sure that the incident will not be repeated.”

Carragher issued a grovelling apology on Sky News the day after the incident, describing his actions as “a moment of madness”. He also called the family to apologise and said his “biggest regret was that a young girl was caught up in the middle of the altercation”.

Carragher has been a pundit for Sky since retiring from playing in 2013.
