The Candidate eyes £3m revenue with new director appointments

Digital, tech and creative marketing recruiter The Candidate has set itself a £3m revenue target for 2023 as it appoints two new associate directors help fuel its growth.

Niels Vaartjes joins as US director having previously worked at software recruitment specialist Brightcloud, while Mark Leader takes up the contract director role having previously run his own Swift Digital Recruitment. The Candidate successfully pulled in its targetted £2m revenue in 2022, when it also brought onboard strategic advisor John O’Sullivan as chair.

Brian Matthews, co-founder of The Candidate said: “The goal is to establish new departments and expand the business geographically in London and the US. By covering both permanent and contract recruitment, we will also benefit from further growth in Executive Search.”

The executive search department was a key area of growth last year, and has benefitted from increased administrative support with has further hires earmarked for the year. The investment so far has resulted in exclusive partnerships with private equity firms and global agencies.

The data and technology department, headed by director Leif Radford, has also thrived, achieving a staggering 400 per cent growth rate since 2021. The Candidate’s marketing agency offering and B2B departments are also expected to contribute towards this year’s planned growth.

2022’s success has also been the catalyst for a move into new Manchester city centre offices after five years in the agency’s previous home. The new Clayton House office features 1,000sq of extra space, more meeting rooms, and social break-out spaces for the growing team, which will expand to 40 members by the end of the year.
