Recruitment for BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker replacement is “still underway”, as the presenter hosted his final programme this morning.

Walker, who has worked as a presenter on the morning TV show for the past six years, announced in April that he was leaving the broadcaster to become a news anchor at Channel 5.

A spokesperson from the BBC confirmed to Prolific North that recruitment for his replacement on the show is “still underway”.

In his final show, he was reunited with former co-host Louise Minchin, who left the programme last year after almost 20 years. A host of celebrities, colleagues and former guests also sent good luck messages to Walker for his last show on the breakfast sofa.

The BBC also paid its own tribute to Walker, with a trip down memory lane:

On his final show this morning, Walker said: “I’ve had so many incredible memories of working on this programme and wonderful moments that this role has given me.

“There aren’t many jobs where you get the chance to give a voice to people who don’t have a voice and to tell other people’s stories.

“It’s been a real privilege to sit here and to present this programme”, he said, thanking viewers and his colleagues at the BBC.
