BBC opens Nations and Regions development funds

The BBC has announced new development funds across television, digital and radio, with a focus on the Nations and Regions.

The 3 funds are:

Small Indie Fund – TV (Scripted, Unscripted and Children’s); 

Small Indie Fund – Digital (all genres) and;

Radio & Music Indie Development Fund

Recipients will receive strategic investment, mentoring from commissioning teams and introductions to wider BBC teams, to help them grow and develop their ideas and businesses. 

The total investment is worth £1.25m.

The Small Indie Fund is to support indies with turnovers below £10m.

While the Radio Indie Development Fund, which is now in its 4th year, will focus on companies with “proven experience” in delivering radio and podcasts.

All the funds will prioritise supporting companies based outside of London, in the Nations and Regions and those with “at least two individuals in key leadership roles” who are from under-represented groups.

“We are committed to supporting smaller independent companies and studios, who are a vital part of our creative industries,” added David Pembrey, Chief Operating Officer, BBC Content.

“These funds form part of our wider content and skills investment in the grassroots of production across the UK, ensuring we tell a range of distinctive homegrown stories for audiences”.
