Award-winning cinematographer Paul Mortlock to headline new Manchester film and production meetup

Manchester’s production community is set to gain a new fixture this January with the launch of REC:MCR, a quarterly networking event for film, video and content professionals across the city and wider North West.

The REC:MCR – Northern Networking event will take place on Tuesday, 20 January, 6pm–9pm at Campfield, which joins the series as its first official sponsor.

Co-hosted by Manchester-based Coolbox Video Studio and Triangle Facilities Hub, the meetup is aimed at production companies, freelancers, producers, editors, camera operators, in-house brand teams and emerging talent. Organisers say the series is designed to strengthen Manchester’s rapidly growing production sector by creating regular opportunities to connect, collaborate and share work.

Marc J Grundy, founder of Coolbox Video Studio, said the event addresses a clear gap in the regional landscape: “Manchester’s production scene is full of talent, but we often work in our own pockets. REC:MCR is about bringing everyone into the same room. We want this to be a space where people feel energised, connected and encouraged to push their creative work further. Whether you run a studio, freelance full-time or are just starting out, this event is for you.”

Alain Lolliot, co-founder of Triangle Facilities Hub, added: “Triangle has always believed in the power of collaboration within our industry. When people share their experiences and challenges openly, we all benefit. REC:MCR is a chance to bring the talented filmmakers, production, and facilities companies of Manchester and the North West together – creating new as well as strengthening existing relationships, encouraging collaboration, and learning from one another – strengthening the sector, together.”

Each REC:MCR session will include open networking, project showcases, a guest speaker and optional breakout discussions tailored to freelancers, emerging talent and production leaders. The first event is free to attend.

The organisers have also confirmed award-winning cinematographer Paul Mortlock as the first headline speaker. His work spans high-end commercials, branded content and narrative projects, with the team saying his involvement sets the tone for “honest conversations, top-tier talent and practical inspiration” for Manchester’s filmmaking community.

Campfield will host the January launch at its central Manchester venue, with a second sponsor slot now open. Sponsors are offered a five-minute speaking opportunity, a branded stand at the event, promotional visibility and direct access to a targeted community of creatives and production professionals.
